Since the group was founded in 2001, they have performed “record copies” of hits from the ‘60s and ‘70s for thousands of people. Band members were hand-picked by Jeffrey A. Reed, music director of Orchestra Kentucky and the Murfreesboro (TN) Symphony Orchestra, in preparation for the Bowling Green orchestra’s first concert of Beatles music. |

According to Reed, “I asked around until I found out who was the best drummer, bass player, and so forth, in Bowling Green, Kentucky. When I called them to join the group, some of them couldn’t quite understand the concept of an orchestra playing the music of The Beatles. They were afraid I was going for a Boston-pops type of sound.” Lest you think they play elevator music, think again. In addition to performing with Orchestra Kentucky and other orchestras to sell-out crowds, the group recently performed with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra as the headliner in the finale of the nationally-renowned Piccolo Spoleto Festival. According to festival director, Ellen Moryl, “Countless people who attended have sent comments and notes saying it was the very best Piccolo Spoleto Finale in the history of the festival.” One of the 10,000 plus fans at the concert described the concert as “magnificent” in her letter to the Charleston newspaper. The Rewinders' Bios DAVE ALLEN, bass player for The Rewinders, was born and raised in Levittown, Pennsylvania and has lived in Bowling Green for twenty one years. He is the Office Manager at Effective Mail Marketing. Dave is a totally self-taught musician and has been playing electric bass for forty years. He made his stage debut at the age of seventeen in a battle of the bands competition in front of a crowd of 1,000 people. Since then, he has played in countless cover bands at countless bars, country clubs, weddings and parties. He is at home playing any style of music, but prefers jazz, blues, classic R&B and, of course, The Beatles. Locally, Dave has played in the pit for professional as well as high school musicals. Dave occasionally teaches beginning bass lessons and has studied classical piano with Janet Bass Smith and upright bass with Karl Olsen. Currently Dave is working with local R&B band Tyrone Dunn Experiment. JON CROSBY, vocalist for The Rewinders, made his first official solo recording at a King’s Island karaoke studio fourteen years ago as a joke. The song that launched his singing career was Garth Brook’s Friends in Low Places. Jon found himself a country music fan in his early teens. This, along with his initial karaoke gig, and the encouragement from friends in high places prompted Jon to spend the next three years pounding the country music industry pavement in Nashville. Thankfully, Jon says, those efforts didn’t result in a professional music career. But he now has many personal accomplishments as well as great memories that have helped in his success as a husband, father, and businessman. “I got to play the Grand Ole Opry and work with musicians from the Belmont University scene who are now country music celebrities. Most importantly, though, I learned to believe in myself. Although many record producer and label doors were shut in my face in those days, I realized that I had the skills to get those doors open in the first place. That alone made it a successful experience.” A mortgage loan advisor at American Bank & Trust by day, a pee-wee baseball coach on weekends, and a non-karaoke singer any chance he gets, Jon has a wonderful wife, Kristy, and two boys, Hayden and Heath, ages seven and three respectively. KEVIN LOVELACE, drummer for The Rewinders, was born in Dayton, Ohio, and attended Western Kentucky University and Berklee College of Music. He and his wife, Beverly, have four children, Amy, Matt, Ian, and Caitlin. Kevin is the IT Manager at McCloud Claims Service Inc. in Bowling Green. Kevin has been playing the drums for over forty years, starting when he was six years old. He was a professional road and session musician for more than fifteen years, and played and recorded with various Nashville and British artists. He has performed in Europe, Canada, and Great Britain. Kevin's hobbies include cigars, following NASCAR racing, and authoring web sites. JOHN MCCRACKEN, guitarist for The Rewinders, was raised in Franklin, Kentucky. He and his wife, Debbie, have two children, Courtney and Olivia. John graduated from Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama, began practicing law in Franklin with his father, and moved to Bowling Green in 1989, where he now has a solo practice. John began taking piano lessons when he was nine, and started playing guitar when he was thirteen. His older brother was his first guitar teacher; he took formal guitar lessons with David Kelsey when he attended Western Kentucky University. All during college he played guitar and sang in clubs, bars, weddings and restaurants in Kentucky and Tennessee. John has played with Bhrett Puckett and Dickie Brown. At age fourteen John played an original song on WBKO's muscular dystrophy telethon, and while in college he wrote and sold some jingles for radio advertisements. The practice of law put John's music on hold until the past few years. He became a Rewinder by auditioning for a vocal position. John says this has been an experience he will always remember and cherish. “It is a rare opportunity when a bar band musician gets to play great music with an orchestra, especially an orchestra as good as Orchestra Kentucky.” BHRETT PUCKETT, guitarist for The Rewinders, grew up and lives in Bowling Green with his wife Jamie and their two children, Houston and Cassady. He attended Bowling Green High School and graduated from WKU in '83 (gosh, he's old). He is an original member of the Rewinders, and is also a member of The Fender Benders and Cootie Brown. When he is not holding a guitar or riding his bicycle, he tries to stay busy running his own lawn-care business. ERNIE RAYMER, keyboardist for The Rewinders, grew up in Russellville, Kentucky and began pounding the keys of his mother’s piano as soon as he could reach them. As a teen, he played flute in the Russellville High School Band under the direction of Hazel Carver, and played organ in a local combo, The Third Time Around. He studied piano with Ruth Morris and flute with Dr. David Livingston. Since then he has performed with a number of bands and vocalists, including Southernwood, Jerry Kendall, Ronnie McDowell, The Tennessee Pullybone, Bobby Bare, Sgt. Arms, Los Juages, Ron Ramsey, Michael Gough, and Terry Palmer. He appears locally with the Ernie Small Blues Band. JOE ROBERTS, guitarist for The Rewinders, was born in Bowling Green. Joe attended the University of Louisville on a baseball scholarship, majoring in public relations and advertising. He was drafted into the 1980 amateur baseball draft in the 10th round by the Texas Rangers and played for two seasons in their minor league system before “they told me to go find a real job.” Joe studied the trumpet and is self-taught on the guitar. He has played for thirty years with groups including The Michael Gough Group, Dick’s Hatband, Mudbone, Jonesville, Cootie Brown, and The Circuit Breakers. Joe’s hobbies are golf, designing websites, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals and the Cleveland Browns in person or on TV. He and his wife, Kay, live in Bowling Green where he owns his own construction company. KEVIN SNYDER, vocalist for The Rewinders, was born in Hawesville, Kentucky, (Pop.1000). He moved to Bowling Green in 1981 and began working at UPS where he has worked in various positions. Currently he is an Account Manager in Sales. He and his wife, Jill, have been married for fifteen years and have a daughter, Savannah (eleven), and a son, Kyle (two). Kevin grew up singing in church with his parents and in various groups through high school and college. He played guitar and sang with the local band "The Next Best Thing" along with Bhrett Puckett, Eric Albany, and Webb Hendrix from 1985-1990. He is currently involved with the Children's Ministry, Jr. Bible Quiz, Worship choir and Vocal Team at Living Hope Baptist Church. He enjoys spending time with his family, coaching girl’s baseball, music, working in his yard, UK Basketball, WKU Basketball, and St. Louis Cardinals baseball. WEBB HENDRIX, percussionist for The Rewinders, is originally from Alabama, and attended Western Kentucky University. He has been employed at Royal Music Company for twenty-four years and has been a member of Orchestra Kentucky for seven years. He also enjoys playing music with the local rock group, Cootie Brown, with the John Martin Trio, and subbing with Fender Benders and Skip Bond when needed. Webb also plays worship services at Hillvue Heights Baptist Church and Living Hope Baptist Church once monthly. Webb lives in Smiths Grove with wife, Pati, and daughters Lilli and Evie, He enjoys watching his daughters participate in sports, working in the garden and woodworking projects around the house. | |
