HELEN MOTTER YOUTH ORCHESTRA CONDUCTOR
Helen Motter is a founding member of Orchestra Kentucky, served as the concertmaster and a board member for four seasons, and participates with Inside Music and the Chamber Players. She began her violin studies with Anne Fryer Eddis, a Juilliard graduate and violinist with the New York City Opera. She studied violin at the Royal Academy of Music in London, England, with Sydney Humphreys, leader of the Aeolian String Quartet, earning an LRAM in 1970. While a student in England, Helen was the associate concertmaster of both the London Youth Orchestra and the British Youth Symphony, and a member of the London Festival Orchestra. While living in the Greater Philadelphia area, she studied with David Madison, associate concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra, studied Suzuki teaching methods in Princeton, New Jersey, taught violin privately, and was a member of the Greater Trenton Symphony, the Bucks County Pro Musica, and the Ars Nova Chamber Orchestra.

Since moving to Bowling Green in 1996, she has enjoyed participating in numerous and enriching musical activities through WKU’s music department, area theaters, schools, and churches, in addition to Orchestra Kentucky. She is completing graduate studies toward a Master of Arts in Church Music at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio, with a concentration in voice and conducting. Helen’s other interests include biblical studies (in which she earned an Associates Degree at Bethany College in Minneapolis in 1987) and writing. She has worked as a book editor for Bethany House Publishers in Minneapolis for twenty-five years. She and her husband Greg have three grown children and four grandchildren.
